As an environmental conservation organization, we are taking part in the 5th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Industrialization Week and Exhibition. We are participating under the USAID REFRESH project. The REFRESH project is for the restoration of fisheries in Lake Malawi, towards achieving sustainable livelihoods. To that effect, the project has pooled together about 11 enterprises, including Environmental Industries, that do business while conserving the environment, hence saving the fish stock downstream from pollution. We are producing and promoting the application of an organic fertilizer with the brand name “Bionitrate”. Rice farmers along the shores of Lake Malawi are being encouraged to apply the organic fertilizer in order to reduce fish poisoning that come from residues of chemical fertilizers into the lake. Among our products is Moringa Powder. Moringa forests grow naturally along the shores of Lake Malawi. We are buying and adding value to the produce in order to commercialize the forest crop. As a result, farmers have found an alternative source of livelihood, hence minimizing the pressure on fishing dependency. The exhibition has kicked off today and it was graced by the president of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, and the president of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. More than 20 companies from the SADC region are participating. The exhibition is aiming at bolstering productive capacities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic for inclusive sustainable economic and industrial transformation. The industrialization exhibition is taking place at the Bingu International Conference Centre, Lilongwe.
