Mbingwa Full Primary school, under Traditional Authority Nyoka in Mchinji district, has adopted Bionitrate fertilizer towards agriculture and sanitation. Two benefits in one. On Monday, October 5th 2020, we conducted a training on the making and application of Bionitrate fertilizer. The school has received a donation of 3 Eco-san toilets. The toilets automatically separate urine from faeces during use. The urine and solid compost are harvested separately. The urine is treated to make Bionitrate fertilizer, which is applied to school gardens for organic nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. While the toilets provide sanitation and hygiene, they are also a viable factory for the much needed organic fertilizer in Malawi. In attendance, during the training, were the ward councillor, 4 teachers, 3 village heads, chair of school committee and 15 school learners. Mbingwa Full Primary school is one of the 29 schools in Lilongwe and Mchinji that are within the Agriculture and sanitation project. The (agriculture and sanitation) programme for schools has been operational since 2014.
