Lilongwe’s Bwaila Rotary club has engaged Environmental Industries to implement the named project in 11 primary schools within Lilongwe district. The project involves construction of 11 composting toilets in the schools and 10 more for lead farmers along the schools. The toilets are designed to separate urine from faeces during use. The urine will be harvested for nitrogen fertilizer while the solid waste will be turned into compost manure. The fertilizers will be applied to school gardens such that the schools will be landscaped with food forests. The project complements that of school health and nutrition in Malawi. In the picture is a glimpse into the training on use and management of the ecological toilets at Chala Primary school.
